How often should an electrophoresis power supply be calibrated?
For research laboratories, annual calibration is recommended. In regulated environments (GMP, GLP, ISO 17025, clinical laboratories), annual calibration is typically mandatory and must be documented. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s recommended intervals and your organization’s quality management requirements.
Electrophoresis power supply VS electrophoresis chamber?
The power supply generates and delivers controlled electrical power; the electrophoresis chamber (gel tray) holds the gel and buffer and contains built-in electrodes. The electrophoresis process takes place inside the electrophoresis chamber. The two are connected via a banana plug or cable, and the power supply can be used with any compatible electrophoresis chamber.
Can a single power supply run multiple gels at the same time?
Yes. Many electrophoresis power supplies are equipped with 2- or 4-channel output terminals, allowing multiple electrophoresis chambers to operate in parallel. However, when connected in parallel, all chambers share the same voltage, and the current is distributed among them; if independent control of each gel is required, a multi-channel power supply with independent outputs is needed.
