Principle of the Automatic Kjeldahl Apparatus
After heating, the sample is digested with concentrated sulfuric acid in the presence of a catalyst. The organic nitrogen in the sample is converted into ammonium sulfate. The Kjeldahl apparatus then calculates the nitrogen content in the sample based on the amount of base or acid consumed during the titration process.
